Method
- 1
Pat the pork tenderloin dry with kitchen paper. Mix together salt, black pepper, and garlic powder in a small bowl.
~5 minsTip: Drying the meat helps browning
- 2
Rub the seasoning mixture all over the pork tenderloin, ensuring it's evenly coated on all sides.
~5 mins - 3Optional step
Heat a frying pan or skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the pork tenderloin on all sides until browned, approximately 2 minutes per side. This step is optional but recommended for added depth of flavour.
~10 minsTip: Browning develops a flavourful crust
- 4
Arrange the sliced onion in the bottom of your slow cooker. Place the seasoned pork tenderloin on top of the onion.
~5 minsTip: Onion acts as a bed and provides moisture
- 5
Cover and cook on Low for 8 hours or on High for 5 hours, until the pork is very tender and shreds easily with a fork.
~8 hrsTip: Cooking time depends on thickness of meat and your slow cooker
- 6
Remove the pork tenderloin from the slow cooker and place on a cutting board. Using two forks, shred the pork into bite-sized pieces.
~10 minsTip: Meat should shred very easily if cooked properly
- 7
Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker. Stir in the maple syrup and BBQ sauce, mixing well to coat all the meat. Cook on High for 20โ30 minutes until the sauce is heated through and the pork is well coated.
~30 minsTip: Adding sauce at the end prevents over-reduction and preserves flavour
- 8
Serve the pulled pork on soft buns or bread of your choice. Drain excess liquid from the slow cooker before serving if desired.
~5 minsTip: Serve hot with coleslaw or pickles on the side if liked

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, absolutely. Pork shoulder or butt will work well and may even be more economical. These cuts benefit from longer, slower cooking, so increase cooking time to 10 hours on Low or 6 hours on High. They'll yield more pulled pork and break down beautifully
