Ingredients

Servings:

Units:

Main

  • 1.2 kg boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into chunks

Thighs recommended for juicier results; breasts will cook faster

Glaze

  • 120 ml clear honey
  • 6 garlic cloves, minced
    , minced or finely chopped
  • 80 ml low-sodium soy sauce
  • 30 ml apple cider vinegar or rice vinegar

Seasoning

  • ½ tsp salt

    Adjust to taste

  • ÂĽ tsp ground black pepper

    Adjust to taste

Optional Thickener

  • 15 ml cornstarch mixed with water (slurry)
    , mixed with 30ml cold water(optional)

Add in final 30 minutes if you prefer a thicker glaze

Garnish

  • 2 fresh spring onions, sliced
    , thinly sliced(optional)

    Garnish just before serving

  • 15 g sesame seeds(optional)

    Garnish just before serving

Method

  1. 1

If desired, heat a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Add a little oil and quickly brown the chicken pieces on all sides (this step is optional but recommended for enhanced flavour). Drain any excess liquid.

    ~8 mins
    Optional step

Tip: Browning develops deeper flavour but is not essential for the slow cooker method

  2. 2

Place the chicken pieces into your slow cooker. In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, and vinegar until well combined.

    ~5 mins
  3. 3

Pour the honey garlic glaze over the chicken, stirring gently to coat all pieces evenly. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

    ~3 mins
  4. 4

Cover and cook on Low for 7 hours, or on High for 4 hours, until the chicken is fall-off-the-bone tender.

    ~7 hrs

Tip: Cooking time depends on your slow cooker and the size of chicken pieces. Check at the earlier time to avoid overcooking

  5. 5

If you prefer a thicker glaze, mix the cornstarch slurry in a small bowl and stir it into the slow cooker. Cook uncovered on High for a further 20–30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the glaze thickens.

    ~25 mins
    Optional step

Tip: Skip this step if you prefer a thinner sauce

  6. 6

Garnish with sliced spring onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately over steamed rice, noodles, or with fresh vegetables.

    ~5 mins

Tip: Add garnishes just before serving to keep them fresh and vibrant
