Ingredients
Main
- 800 g Protein (beef, chicken, or pork), cubed or as preferred cuts
Brown meat in a frying pan first for better colour and flavour
Vegetables
- 600 g Root vegetables (potatoes, carrots, parsnips), peeled and chunked
Cut into similar-sized pieces for even cooking
- 2 medium Onions, roughly chopped
Liquid & Seasoning
- 500 ml Beef or vegetable stock
Reduce by approximately 0.25 litre from conventional recipes
- to taste Salt and black pepper
Flavouring
- 3 cloves Garlic cloves, minced(optional)
- 2 tsp Dried herbs (thyme, bay leaf, or mixed herbs)(optional)
Garnish
- 15 g Fresh parsley, chopped(optional)
Add in final 10 minutes of cooking

If time permits, heat a frying pan over medium-high heat and brown the meat on all sides for 5-7 minutes until colour develops. This step enhances flavour but can be skipped if preparing quickly.

Place the browned (or raw) meat into your slow cooker. Add the chopped onions, garlic, and chunked root vegetables.

Pour the stock over the ingredients. Add dried herbs, salt, and pepper to taste. Stir well to combine.

Cover the slow cooker with its lid. Set to Low for approximately 8 hours or High for approximately 5 hours, depending on your schedule and the size of your meat pieces.
