Hearty lamb casserole with red wine

For this dish you’ll need to cut a shoulder into cubes and mix well with seasoned flour, frying this over a high heat until well browned. Cook up a separate sauce incorporating tomato puree and red wine, then add all of this to your slow cooker with vegetables, garlic, stock and rosemary.

This should now take about eight hours to cook. Serve with potatoes and a plumy red wine.

Spicy Thai curry

Curries taste that bit more amazing when cooked in a slow cooker. This classic Massaman dish combines beef, potatoes and peanuts for a truly authentic Asian taste. First, place potatoes and one onion in a slow cooker.

Fry your beef in garlic and butter until it’s sufficiently browned on all sides, then add this to the vegetables in the slow cooker. Create the sauce by combining coconut milk, peanut butter and curry powder in the frying pan, then adding this as well as Thai fish sauce, brown sugar and beef stock to the other ingredients.

Let this sit in the slow cooker for four to six hours, testing the tenderness of the beef with a fork. Then serve with rice and steamed vegetables.

A classic Sunday roast

This recipe has all the classic taste of a traditional roast with the added benefits of pot cooking. Instead of roasting, add your chicken to your slow cooker to give it extra tenderness.

Add red wine to the slow cooker to give your meat further flavour. Prepare your vegetables separately and then add the lot to the oven to roast. Serve with a lovely cold beer in the late afternoon Sunday sun.
