You canít beat this favourite for a flavourful, satisfying meal. Serve with soda bread, and be sure to save some of the beef for delicious sandwiches.


  • 2 lb (900g) corned beef brisket
  • 1 small head of cabbage cut into wedges
  • 3 carrots cut into 2cm pieces
  • 3 onions cut into quarters
  • 3 potatoes
  • Ĺ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon salt


  • Put the carrots into the bottom of the slow cooker. Place corned beef brisket and onions atop.
  • Mix water, sugar, garlic powder, and salt and pour into slow cooker.
  • Cover and cook on Low setting for 8 to 9 hours.
  • Add cabbage and press them down into the liquid. Turn slow cooker to high setting and cook for another 2 to 3 hours.
