  • 1 x 140 g (5 oz) jar of sliced mushrooms, drained
  • 0.5 kg (1 lb) boneless beef round steak, cut into 2.5 cm (1 inch) pieces
  • 2 cups of frozen green beans
  • 2 1/2 cups of water
  • 1 cup of shredded carrots
  • 1 x 340 g (12 oz) jar of mushroom gravy
  • 1/2 cup regular pearl barley, uncooked
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
  • 2 teaspoons beef-flavoured bouillon
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper


  1. Place all the ingredients in a slow cooker.
  2. Cover and cook for 10 to 12 hours on low.
  3. Transfer into the serving dish.
  4. Best if served with bread.
